NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J., Nov. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — In an era of stricter compliance requirements for Life Sciences organizations, managing interactions with healthcare professionals (HCPs) through meetings and other types of engagements is a critical task. Companies large and small have wrestled with this challenge as their processes have evolved and changed.

Insights into how these challenges are being addressed by Life Science organizations are provided in the Healthcare Professional Meetings and Engagements 2016 Industry Benchmarking Study. Commissioned by AHM, a leading global provider of technology enabled services for the Life Sciences industry, the research was conducted by Penton Research, the parent company of MeetingsNet. There were 115 respondents to the survey, including individuals from many leading Life Sciences industry organizations and the data was gathered in March and April of 2016. The organizations that were surveyed ranged in size, with more than 40% of the respondents from companies with greater than 15,000 employees and more than 80% have a global footprint. There were individual respondents from multiple business lines within these organizations.

Highlights among the findings in the study include:

  • 82% of respondents said increasing their level of compliance was the most important HCP engagement initiative.
  • 41% of respondents said compliance was the biggest challenge in managing HCP meetings and interactions.
  • 72% of respondents said that their biggest challenge in achieving compliance is the use of multiple, disparate systems to track and report on HCP data.
  • 52% of respondents CANNOT track the participation of HCPs globally.

The study also shows that the lack of a single tool to manage all of an organization’s HCP interactions on a national and global basis in addition to the burden of tracking and reporting data on HCP interactions, and the challenges associated with transparency reporting contribute significantly to the difficulty of achieving compliance. To date, fragmented and disparate systems have only added costs while producing information that is often incomplete or inaccurate. Furthermore, any HCP disputes that result from transparency reporting have absorbed an organization’s time and resources and, most critically, have been frustrating for the HCP.
